Supporting 200% Growth in Cold Chain Logistics: Brontay Transport

brontay transport case study

Managing thousands of deliveries is challenging enough. Add to that refrigerated trucks, perishable goods, interstate freight, supplier relationships, cross-docking – and visibility becomes non-negotiable.

For Australian logistics company Brontay Transport, delivery volumes increased rapidly. Over 18 months, the business grew by almost 200%. Its fleet now includes 70+ vehicles, while monthly consignments have grown from 1,500 to 3,000 and are now approaching 3,500.

We spoke to Shubham Chaudhary, Head of Technology, about supporting rapid growth with scalable, easy-to-use delivery management solutions.

“I cannot imagine handling this much volume without Track-POD.”

The challenge: scaling complex cold chain logistics

Brontay Transport handles goods from farmers, interstate shipments arriving from Melbourne and Adelaide, deliveries to retail stores, and complex cross-docking.

Much of the freight is perishable and needs to remain within specific temperature ranges. As the volumes grew, chasing missing information through paperwork became impractical.

“The amount of paperwork was hopeless.”

The company needed a system capable of supporting higher delivery volumes without making daily operations more complicated for the team.

Solution #1: keeping the driver app simple

Driver adoption was an important consideration. The team had explored other solutions but found that driver apps could quickly become complicated.

“Track-POD allows us to keep it simple for less tech-savvy drivers.”

Within a couple of weeks, all drivers were comfortable using the mobile app without any formal training or dedicated expenditure. The company circulated written guides and provided support by phone when necessary.

Drivers also use other delivery apps when subcontracting for customers, making the difference particularly noticeable.

“We're happy to follow a few steps correctly rather than make mistakes in a lot of steps.”

Solution #2: using ePOD to document temperature

Digital proof of delivery has become one of the most important parts of Brontay Transport’s workflow.

Because the trucks use separate hardware for continuous temperature monitoring, drivers take photos of the temperature unit when capturing proof of delivery. The ability to attach multiple photos allows the team to keep all records in one place.

“Being able to take up to 10 photos per order is definitely useful.”

If a customer later questions the conditions in which their goods were transported, the team can refer to the delivery record rather than trying to reconstruct what happened.

Solution #3: spotting delivery issues sooner

Electronic proof of delivery also helps Brontay Transport identify incomplete or incorrect records quickly. If a driver attaches the wrong photo or fails to capture the required information, the office can see it and follow up while the delivery is still recent. Previously, these issues might only have surfaced weeks later.

One of the workflows the team uses frequently is filtering consignments by delivery status. This immediately shows deliveries or collections that remain incomplete and require attention.

“The number of failed consignments is very low — it can be just 5 out of 1,000 orders.”

Solution #4: real-time visibility for everyone

Visibility extends beyond Brontay Transport’s back office. Shippers using Track-POD’s Customer Portal create their own bookings, access PODs, and monitor progress without contacting the team for updates.

“More than live tracking, it gives them peace of mind.”

For one shipper, Track-POD has even earned a permanent spot on their office monitors, with one screen dedicated exclusively to orders in progress.

What's next for Brontay Transport?

“The number that we take pride in is where we started from and where we are now.”

As the company continues to grow, more people will be involved in managing operations. Brontay Transport is already exploring Track-POD's Teams functionality, where permissions can be customized to each team while managers retain complete visibility.

Cross-docking is also becoming increasingly important, with more freight being stored at the company’s facilities before it’s dispatched again over the following days.

As the operation grows, scaling is no longer simply about adding more trucks. It’s about keeping thousands of consignments, multiple teams, and increasingly complex workflows visible and under control. For Brontay Transport, Track-POD provides the visibility needed to keep growing without losing sight of what’s happening on the road.
